Friend, viewing pornography is tremendously exciting—but only for awhile. It promises fulfillment, stimulation and satisfaction.

But if you've been involved in it for any length of time, you know that these promises are really lies; pornography takes more than it ever gives!

Today we'll read the story of a young man whose heart was lured by the promise of excitement, satisfaction, material wealth, and lifelong friendships. But he ended up losing everything. Let's read:

11 There was a man who had two sons.

12 The younger one said to his father, "Father, give me my share of the estate." So he divided his property between them.

13 Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.

15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. Luke 15:11-16

This young man wasn't content with his life, so he asked his father for his inheritance. Everything went downhill from there.

Friend, pornography and virtual sex plant powerful seeds of discontentment in our hearts. It plants the seed of physical discontentment with the display of seemingly flawless actors and actresses. It plants the seeds of emotional discontentment through endlessly repeated exhibitions of physical "love."

And once discontentment settles in, covetousness—wanting what we do not have—isn't far behind. In the Bible passage above, this problem is evident in the words "Give me my share."

If we were to follow the lives of people who have been involved in pornography for any length of time, we would discover lives of loss, need, and emptiness.

Here is the way one man stated it: "I have been involved in pornographic movies, pornographic Internet surfing, night clubs, strip shows, prostitution, and self-gratification.

I am a former pastor, and could no longer remain in the ministry and keep up my involvement in this." Unfortunately, this is a common scenario.

Please answer the following questions:

Question 1

问题1

Verse 14 above mentions two things that caused this young man to "be in need." What are they?

Regarding the famine: it may be that God's hand is against us when we are sinning. But in some cases, God is disciplining in order to restore.

This famine was sent by God to increase the "need" of the young man; its purpose was his restoration.

Question 2

There is a word in verse 16 that describes all who are not being satisfied in Jesus Christ. Fill in the blank: "He  to fill his stomach."

The young man initially longed for his inheritance and the wild life; now he was longing for food. Longing is a defining characteristic of those who don't drink the Living Water of Jesus Christ.

Remember the woman at the well and her six relationships?

Question 3

Have you lost anything through involvement with pornography or immorality?

And the God of all grace... will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10

Friend, our God is a restoring God. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking for someone to devour. But God is able to forgive, save, and restore us when we fall. He is also able to keep us from falling again. Read the rest of the passage in Luke 15:

17 When he came to his senses, he said, "How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.'"

20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21The son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son."

22 But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.

24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." So they began to celebrate. Luke 15:17-24

Question 6

问题6

Verse 17 says that the young man "came to his senses." What then was this man's condition while in the far country?

神志不清 (out of his mind)

快乐

Friend, viewing pornography is insanity! It puts us out of our right minds.

Question 7

问题7

What two words does the father use in verse 24 to describe his son when he was in the far country?

Question 8

问题8

When he "came to his senses," where did he want to go?

N Grill

The first indicator of true repentance is a desire for God. We know we are starting to think correctly after a time in the far country when we want to go to our Heavenly Father.

Let's review what we know of this young man. According to Jesus, this man was, for a time, not in his right mind—but he did come back to his senses. According to his father, he was dead and lost. According to his own words, he had sinned and was unworthy.

Question 9

问题9

Do you see yourself and your involvement with impurity in the life of this prodigal? Write your thoughts here:

Like the prodigal, I was once discontent with what I had, and pornography stirred up lust in my heart. I longed for intimacy, and attempted to satisfy it in the wrong way... a way that is far away from God.

When involved with pornography and sexual sin, we are out of our minds; dead and lost spiritually, sinful and unworthy—and we may lose much while in this condition. But when we "come to our senses" and return to our Heavenly Father, He accepts, embraces, loves, and restores us.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20

Are there any sweeter words in all of Scripture? They reveal God's heart toward those who leave sin and come to Him. If you leave sexual impurity and return to God, you will be received warmly—no matter how far away you drifted, how long you've been gone, or how much you've lost.

Our God loves those who leave their sin and come to Him; notice that the father was "filled with compassion." Just the sight of us when we return fills our Father's heart with compassion. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him(Psalm 103:13).

Luke 15:22-24

The end of this story is marked by a joyous restoration. He who had sinned, squandered his wealth, and lived with pigs was now reconciled to his father, given a robe, ring and sandals, and was feasting on the fatted calf.

This story should be enormously inspiring to us, who through pornography and impurity have squandered away our spiritual inheritance (and possibly much more).

But now, we are reconciled to God, graced with the robe of righteousness, granted the ring of authority, and are wearing the sandals of readiness to tell the gospel. And most importantly, we are feasting on Jesus by reading and meditating on His Word! We were saved to celebrate!

Have you lost a great deal through your involvement with pornography and immorality? If you come to God, or come back to God, you will see His heart of compassion for you.

You will see your life restored and made a blessing to others. You will look good in your new robe, and will enjoy a feast that will satisfy your longings. God will restore to you the years the locust has eaten (Joel 2:25).

Question 10

What spiritual progression is made evident by the young man's decision to return home?

22 But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.

24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." So they began to celebrate. Luke 15:22-24

Question 14

问题14

Share your thoughts on Joel 2:25-26: "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm my great army that I sent among you. You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed."

This passage is a promise of God to restore what the Israelites' disobedience destroyed. The locusts represent sin, which devours and destroys everything in its path.

Share your thoughts on Hosea 6:1-2: "Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.

After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence."

Question 16

问题16

Share your thoughts on Isaiah 61:1-4: "The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations."

请分享你对以赛亚书61:1-4的感想:“主耶和华的灵在我身上。因为耶和华用膏膏我,叫我传好信息给谦卑的人,(或作传福音给贫穷的人)差遣我医好伤心的人,报告被掳的得释放,被囚的出监牢;

18 Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob's tents, And have mercy on his dwelling places; The city shall be built upon its own mound, And the palace shall remain according to its own plan.

19 Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small." Jeremiah 30:18-19

Finally, I recently heard a song that speaks much of the love and grace of our Father. It is called "When God Ran," recorded by Benny Hester. Here are the lyrics:

Almighty God, the Great I Am.

Immovable rock, omnipotent, powerful, awesome Lord.

Victorious warrior, commanding King of Kings.

Mighty conqueror, and the only time,

The only time I ever saw Him run,

(Chorus)

Was when He ran to me, He took me in His arms,

Held my head to His chest

Said, "My son's come home again."

Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes,

With forgiveness in His voice

He said, "Son, do you know I still love you?"

He caught me by surprise, when God ran.

The day I left home, I knew I'd broken His heart

And I wondered then if things could ever be the same.

Then one night I remembered His love for me

And down that dusty road ahead I could see

It was the only time

It was the only time I ever saw Him run.

And He ran to me, He took me in His arms,

Held my head to His chest

Said, "My son's come home again."

Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes,

With forgiveness in His voice

He said, "Son, do you know I still love you?"

He caught me by surprise, when God ran.

He caught me by surprise and He brought me to my knees

When God ran, I saw Him run to me.

I was so ashamed, all alone and so far away.

But now I know He's been waiting for this day.

I saw Him run to me, He took me in His arms,

Held my head to His chest

Said, "My son's come home again."

Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes,

With forgiveness in His voice I felt His love for me again.

He ran to me, He took me in His arms

Held my head to His chest

Said, "My son's come home again."

When God ran.

To clarify what the first accountability question means, we have included the following explanation.

What does "feasting" mean?"

Feasting" is more than just reading the Bible;

it is a term to express the nourishing of our souls in Jesus Christ. It means that we are sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His Word and believing it, for the purpose of implementing the truths into our lives.

It means we are receiving spiritual nourishment and we are delighting our souls in His grace and truth. This may be done in reading our Bibles, hearing God's Word preached, interacting with others in the Scriptures, and studying through this course, etc. This definition is at least a start; further explanation is included in the lessons.

Have you been feasting on God's word?

 Yes是   No 否

If so, when was the last time you feasted? And how? In other words, how did you enjoy God? Reading? Prayer? Worship? Fellowship? Witnessing?

These next, tough, accountability questions apply to the entire period since you did your last lesson.

Were you free from pornography since you did the last lesson?

 Yes是  No否

Were you free from self-gratification since you did the last lesson?

 Yes是  No 否

Were you free from sexual immorality since you did the last lesson?

 Yes是  No否

If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, tell us what led to your fall. If you answered "yes" to the above questions, you may use this area for questions or additional comments.
