Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2

存心忍耐，奔那摆在我们前头的路程，仰望为我们信心创始成终的耶稣。

In 1952 Florence Chadwick attempted to swim 26 miles from the coast of California to Catalina Island. After 15 hours, a heavy fog began to block her view, she became disoriented, and she gave up. To her chagrin, Chadwick learned that she had quit just 1 mile short of her destination.

在1952年，美国职业潜泳好手佛罗伦丝（Florence Chadwick）尝试从加州海岸游向42公里外的卡塔利那岛。她游了15小时后，一阵浓雾阻挡了她的视线，使她失去方向，最后不得不放弃。后来，当她知道只差1.6公里即可到达目的地时，不禁感到懊恼和惋惜。

Two months later Chadwick tried a second time to swim to Catalina Island from the coast. Again a thick fog settled in, but this time she reached her destination, becoming the first woman to swim the Catalina Channel. Chadwick said she kept an image of the shoreline in her mind even when she couldn’t see it.

两个月之后，她第二次尝试从加州海岸游至卡塔利那岛。浓雾又再次笼罩，但这次她抵达了目的地，成为第一位横渡卡塔利那海峡的女性。她说，那时虽然她看不见海岸线，但是她继续锁定目标，奋力往前游，最后终于抵达目的地。 

When the problems of life cloud our vision, we have an opportunity to learn to see our goal with the eyes of faith. The New Testament letter to the Hebrews urges us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (12:1-2). When we feel like quitting, this is our signal to remember not only what Jesus suffered for us but what He now helps us to endure—until the day we see Him face to face.

当生活中的各种阴霾险阻，遮蔽了我们的视线，我们可以学习用信心之眼仰望目标。新约希伯来书的作者鼓励我们：「存心忍耐，奔那摆在我们前头的路程，仰望为我们信心创始成终的耶稣」（12章1-2节）。当心中想要放弃的时候，其实是提醒我们，单单仰望耶稣，因祂不仅曾为我们忍受各样的苦难，现在更愿帮助我们在患难中忍耐，一直到我们面对面与主相见的那一日。

Dear Father,

sometimes the challenges of life seem insurmountable.

Help me to fix my eyes on You and trust You.

I’m thankful You are bringing about Your good purposes in me.

亲爱的天父，

有时人生的困境似乎难以越过，
帮助我定睛仰望祢、信靠祢。
感谢祢在我的生命中，成就祢美好的计划。

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

God Disciplines His Children

4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
    and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
    and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a]

7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

主所爱的他必管教

12 我们既有这许多的见证人，如同云彩围着我们，就当放下各样的重担，脱去容易缠累我们的罪，存心忍耐，奔那摆在我们前头的路程， ² 仰望为我们信心创始成终的耶稣^[a]。他因那摆在前面的喜乐，就轻看羞辱，忍受了十字架的苦难，便坐在神宝座的右边。 ³ 那忍受罪人这样顶撞的，你们要思想，免得疲倦灰心。 ⁴ 你们与罪恶相争，还没有抵挡到流血的地步。 ⁵ 你们又忘了那劝你们如同劝儿子的话说：“我儿，你不可轻看主的管教，被他责备的时候也不可灰心。 ⁶ 因为主所爱的，他必管教，又鞭打凡所收纳的儿子。” ⁷ 你们所忍受的，是神管教你们，待你们如同待儿子。焉有儿子不被父亲管教的呢？ ⁸ 管教原是众子所共受的，你们若不受管教，就是私子，不是儿子了。

受管教的结果

⁹ 再者，我们曾有生身的父管教我们，我们尚且敬重他，何况万灵的父，我们岂不更当顺服他得生吗？ ¹⁰ 生身的父都是暂随己意管教我们，唯有万灵的父管教我们，是要我们得益处，使我们在他的圣洁上有份。 ¹¹ 凡管教的事，当时不觉得快乐，反觉得愁苦，后来却为那经练过的人结出平安的果子，就是义。
